Space Needle at Dawn from Kerry Park - The beggining of the last day of 2011
I have come back a couple of times but the sky at dawn has never been the same as back in 2008, so I haven't posted those shots. This one here came out decent, same framing than the one in 2008 but with the needle on the right hand opening of the sculpture. I also fired my camera strobe at the sculpture to bring more depth to it.

Sowmya's NYC
Traveled to NYC on business last week and (of course) didn't miss the opportunity to spend the night and next morning shooting. I was able shoot a lot and from great vantage points thanks to the good New Yorker and good friend (with lots of patience) Sowmya who I had the pleasure to follow around town.
This pano of the city at night is basically his own view of the city, from the roof of the building at 444 and 35th west. So dedicated this shot to you my friend!

Peterson's Seattle
Just came back from a very intense weekend photo workshop with legend photographer Bryan Peterson. This was a first time ever experience for me doing something this intense on a topic that is non related to my core profession, and I have to say I have been focused on my core profession since I was like 15 years old, so we're talking 26 years here ... Even thought I feel exhausted right now, after somewhere around 30 hours of work between Friday and Sunday (very similar to spending a full weekend backpacking), I can say that this has been an amazing experience, and just like the smell of fresh morning coffee ... I can perceive the profound impact this will have in my future as a photographer and individual ...
So I want to specially thank Bryan Peterson for sharing such an amazing amount of insights, tips and techniques (with the "Zoom Twist", a.k.a. Bryan Perterson's effect as my personal favorite), I'm loving how all this is igniting my creativity juices ... also to my new friends photographers ... as you might imagine, spending 30 hours working closely with a dozen folks could be heaven or hell, depending on who you work with ... so I'm also grateful for sharing such a fun journey with such a personality-rich group of individuals and looking forward to stay connected in the future.
Now after this long intro, about this shot.
This is an all in-camera shot of Seattle from the Rizal bridge, 2 exposures in one frame single (no photoshop), 2nd exposure zooming out, again, here Bryan suggested multiple exposures as something I could do beyond your classical panoramic of long exposure on a leveled horizon from Rizal bridge ...Andres Caldera PhotographyRizal bridgeSeattleSeattleSMUGSitecityscape

Gasworks Park at Dusk - Landscape version
Just if there was any doubt that the sunsets in Seattle were among the most beautiful nature scenes in the planet, here are my 2 cents.
Just went visiting Gas Works Park on a sunday afternoon back in January and was welcomed with this unbeliavable color show, I swear I didn't apply saturation at all, no HDR, just cropped to remove some stuff at the bottom ... hand held as I didn't even bring my tripod this time around ...Andres Calderacityscapeseattlegasworks park

Dawn in Seattle
The Space Needle and the city of Seattle at dawn as seen from Kerry Park through the sculpture "Changing Form" by Doris Chase.
I took this shot in November 2008, with my 1st ever DSLR, a Canon Rebel XT and using my 70-300 consumer quality zoom. I edited it using ACR (which I was also using for the 1st time ever).
This shot was selected for the 1st ever Microsoft Employee Art Gallery, and for that ocasion I printed it 12x18 using my own HP B8850 (which is now defunct).
This photo basically motivated me to keep going ...Seattlespace needledawnsunrisecityscape

Washington Monument & "the reflection puddle"
On my visit to DC I took my tripod and was able to take a few shots of the classics thanks to the help from my friends ...
After taking the classic reflection shot, i realized there was this little puddle on one side of the reflecting pool and even with mosquitoes having an anxiety attack, I decided to go down on the lawn and give it a shot ... so I guess this is not your typical shot ...

Airtight transfer from B17 to B18
There is a science-fiction-like skybridge in my building ... automatic (presence based) opening doors and everything ... when you're on your own you can only hear the whisper of the airconditioning system, feels like 2001 space odissey ...
Have been waiting for a while for the right sky to shoot, this was not perfect sky but good enough ... I played with a few treatements in CS4 until I got to this one that my son really liked (told me seemed like from the Megamind movie) so I think this works for the science fiction look ...

44 feet presence at Madison Square Park
I was walking around NYC, with a few more minutes before I had to head to the airport right after visiting Chase Jarvis' project Dassain at the ACE hotel ... So I took a peek at an area map my on my Windows Phone and realized there was a park (Madison Square Park) a few blocks from there ... decided to walk ... got to the park and nothing special seemed to be happening but then I noticed a huge white " thing" in the middle ... lucky me to find this huge surreal statue with all sorts of people sunbathing around ... yes, that is the empire state building behind the statue :-)
You can read more about this 44 feet tall statue here http://www.madisonsquarepark.org/things-to-do/calendar/jaume-plensa-in-madison-square-park but here's a summary: "Echo, Plensa’s commission for Madison Square Park, depicts a nine-year old girl from Plensa’s Barcelona neighborhood, lost in a state of thoughts and dreams. Standing forty-four feet tall at the center of the park’s expansive Oval Lawn, Echo’s towering stature and white marble-dusted surface harmoniously reflect the historic limestone buildings that surround the park. Both monumental in size and inviting in subject, the peaceful visage of Echo creates a tranquil and introspective atmosphere amid the cacophony of central Manhattan"
