  • Our Future Memories

    Our Future Memories

With this photo I try to express why I love photography so much ... This frozen moment in time will forever tell the story of this holiday spent together in this amazing and unique place in the world called Mt Rainier National Park and the beautiful cabins of Stone Creek Lodge.

From the front row and left to right: Sissy (the stuffed animal, the yongest but managed to stay still for 2 seconds for this shot), Daniel, Lucas, Chino, Heidi, Susanne, Andres, Yayo & Victoria.

We had a great time in the great outdoors, as well as in the great indoors of this single room wooden cabin at http://www.stonecreeklodge.net/. We will come back soon for more table games, peace and photos!

Nothing tops the thrill of flying a kite and nothing but flying a kite can connect me with my childhood in an instant!

Here is Daniel at Cannon beach, flying his new kyte that he got from Simón and Valentina as a birthday present.

Played with a bunch of masks to improve contrast of the sky and subject (didn't use a fill flash :-( ) and the mighty highpass filter to add texture to the sand and clouds ... high contrast red filter in CS4 for B&W conversion. Shot with the Nikkor 10-24 @ 10mm :-)

12/11/2009 update - I just got email from Popular Photography Magazine that this photo won the second place on the "your best shot" monthly contest and will be published in the Feb 2010 edition of the magazine!

Beautiful Mystic Lake @ Mt Rainier National Park

This place is amazing, in less than 15 minutes it went from a completelly bright, sharp view of the lake, to a 100% foggy where you couldn't almost see the water ...

This shot is kind of in the middle ... I had to play with masks and red and blue filters in order to get a contrasty look in the sky (top and bottom of the image - red filter) as well as in the middle portion of the image (blue filter)

  • Windy Gap Lake in B&W

    Windy Gap Lake in B&W

Last weekend I hiked the Northern Loop Trail www.nps.gov/archive/mora/trail/northern.htm with my friend Alexander ... it was a blast, 5 miles bike (with 35 pound BP) to start the journey, then 14.5 miles day 1, camp at Fire Creek, next day we headed to the cross country camping area by Mystic Lake (like 12 miles more to get there) ... following morning an awesome day hike (without backpacks, thanks God) to the top of "Mineral mountain" to find out there was a log from the Mountaineers (nobody had signed it since 2006, so the French and the Venezuelan stamped their names) ... next follow the loop downhill, 8 more miles to the point of origin, jump onto the bikes and ride 5 more miles (but this time downhill), what a great way to end the hike! (not counting the warm Mexican food after 3 days of trail mix, freeze dried food and things like that) ... In t his photo a lake without know official name ... this lake can be found by Windy Gap in the Northern Loop Trail, Mount Rainier, WA

There is a science-fiction-like skybridge in my building ... automatic (presence based) opening doors and everything ... when you're on your own you can only hear the whisper of the airconditioning system, feels like 2001 space odissey ...

Have been waiting for a while for the right sky to shoot, this was not perfect sky but good enough ... I played with a few treatements in CS4 until I got to this one that my son really liked (told me seemed like from the Megamind movie) so I think this works for the science fiction look ...

  • 44 feet presence at Madison Square Park

44 feet presence at Madison Square Park

I was walking around NYC, with a few more minutes before I had to head to the airport right after visiting Chase Jarvis' project Dassain at the ACE hotel ... So I took a peek at an area map my on my Windows Phone and realized there was a park (Madison Square Park) a few blocks from there ... decided to walk ... got to the park and nothing special seemed to be happening but then I noticed a huge white " thing" in the middle ... lucky me to find this huge surreal statue with all sorts of people sunbathing around ... yes, that is the empire state building behind the statue :-)

You can read more about this 44 feet tall statue here http://www.madisonsquarepark.org/things-to-do/calendar/jaume-plensa-in-madison-square-park but here's a summary: "Echo, Plensa’s commission for Madison Square Park, depicts a nine-year old girl from Plensa’s Barcelona neighborhood, lost in a state of thoughts and dreams. Standing forty-four feet tall at the center of the park’s expansive Oval Lawn, Echo’s towering stature and white marble-dusted surface harmoniously reflect the historic limestone buildings that surround the park. Both monumental in size and inviting in subject, the peaceful visage of Echo creates a tranquil and introspective atmosphere amid the cacophony of central Manhattan"

Kids mid-winter break, ahhh couldn't miss the opportunity to get out to the great washington state outdoors ... so we head out to Mt Rainier National Park to do some snowshoeing (1st time ever) and take some shoots of Mt Rainier from Reflection Lakes ... I guess is obvious I didn't grow up in a place like this when I heard from the park ranger: "No reflections, the lake is covered by several feets of snow" ... What? ... Anyways, here is my fav shot of the trip, the great indoors of our awesome cabin at Stone Creek Lodge, 200 yards from the park entrance, we enjoyed our daylight hours outside as much as we enjoyed staying at this cozy and clean wood cabin, will come back soon for another try!!! www.stonecreeklodge.net/ This is a 3 bracket HDR, processed with Photomatix and converted to sepia in CS4. The Marquis Alien - Take 2

I visited the Marriott Marquis Atlanta last week, from the outside it seemed like a typical boring hotel building, but when inside and looked up, i was amazed by the organic shape, they looked to me like the chest of some alien form and the elevators up&down would actually make the thing come alive (like veins pumping blood).
